Home coming

50th post

New sign post at Tenwek

We made it home safely after 32 hours of traveling.  I think it’s safe to say that we were ready to be home after traveling so long.  We left Tenwek an hour after the opening celebration of the 50th anniversary of Tenwek’s establishment as a hospital.  You can see the beautiful sign that was made for the occassion.  In the background, the building you see is the OR theatre and main conference room.  I hope the local vendors don’t set up shop around this signpost as they did with the other one closer to the hospital.  It’s impossible to get a picture of the older signpost no matter what time you try–and I tried!

Our layover in Amsterdam was much shorter than the inbound leg, so we didn’t stop for our shower or to update the blog.  Unfortunately our friends from the University of Michigan were delayed by various personal or clinical commitments at the last moment so we weren’t able to meet them during our Detroit layover.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to see them sometime in the future to discuss the possibilities of cardiac surgery at Tenwek.  It was nice to finally see our kids.  I need to go get some food for the family, but I will post more later today.
